Thank you for your interest in Bay Area Habitat for Humanity's homeownership program.  

  • Bay Area Habitat for Humanity-Houston, Inc. is a non-profit Christian housing ministry that builds affordable homes in partnership with families who could not otherwise qualify for a conventional home mortgage.
  • Habitat for Humanity builds in over 100 countries and is the 14th largest homebuilder in the United States.
  • Habitat homes are built with volunteer labor and funded with financial and in-kind material donations.
  • Homes are sold to homeowner families at cost, with an interest free 20 year loan.
  • Homeowner mortgage payments help fund other Habitat homes.
  • Bay Area Habitat is currently building in Dickinson and LaPorte.

  • The La Porte meeting will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 At the Neighborhood Center Located on 526 San Jacinto, La Porte, TX 77571
  • The Dickinson meeting will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 At the Living Faith Outreach Church Located on 3700 Deats Road, Dickinson, TX  77539, close to the houses built by  BAHFH in Dickinson.

Please read the following requirements to see if you meet our general qualifications:

  1. You must have a housing need. For example: broken plumbing, poor heating, leaks in the roof, overcrowding, unsafe or unsanitary conditions, dislocated as a result of a natural disaster such as Hurricane Ike.
     
  2. You must also be unable to purchase a home through conventional means.
     
  3. You must be willing to live where Bay Area Habitat for Humanity is building. We are currently building in Dickinson and La Porte, TX.
     
  4. Your family's gross income must fall within the guidelines of the chart below. Income includes wages, social security, food stamps, disability, child support, etc. Call the office at (281) 337-3590 for a full list of acceptable forms of income.
     
  5. You must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity. If you are approved for a Habitat home, we require that members of your household and friends be willing to give 350 hours of “sweat equity” building your home as well as other Habitat homes. Accepted Partner Families must are also required to attend specific financial budgeting and homeownership courses. (Hours are granted for these courses.) 175 of those hours must be completed before being assigned a specific house address. Your willingness to fully participate in Habitat’s program is very important.
