Family Service and Support
Our Family Services program includes two main branches: Family Selection and Family Support.
The Family Selection Committee meets once a month (first Wednesday) to review Partner Family Applications. This committee carries out home visits and interviews with the applicants, and makes the appropriate recommendations for families they believe are qualified for the Habitat for Humanity program. The Habitat for Humanity program focuses on three main criteria for interested families:
- A housing need
- The ability to reasonably pay a no interest mortgage payment each month
- A willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity.
Our Family Selection Committee members get to know our prospective homeowners well and make informed yet unbiased decisions based on their understanding of each family’s needs. Every affiliate follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection.
If your family, or a family you know, is in need of decent, affordable housing, please check our Apply for a Home page
The Family Support Committee consists of a group of people who carry out many duties corresponding to our Partner Families. This committee holds informational meetings for people interested in learning more about the Partner Family application process. Members of the Family Support Committee work with these families throughout the application process, answering questions about forms and procedures.
As part of Family Support, all of the Bay Area Habitat for Humanity Partner Families are required to attend financial literacy courses. BAHFH has chosen Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University as its tool for helping our homeowners better understand their mortgages and general finances.
