Rosharon New Replacement home for migrant worker family.  Attn. brought by Mike Malkemes of Gateway Community Church.

Notes from Mitchell 12/24/07:

Mike Malkemes is the Outreach Director for Gateway Community Church in Webster.

They raised $10K to build a replacement home for a Cambodian migrant worker family in Rosharon whose home was destroyed in a fire.

The 13x30 foot modular home is being built on the grounds of Gateway Community Church and when completed, it will be transported to Rosharon for the family.

The interior and exterior is progressing, but they are in urgent need for a plumber to help finalize the house layout before it can be sheetrocked.  If you have plumber "connections", please contact Mike at Gateway Community Church.

The house as pictured was constructed in 2 weeks.  The Cambodian husband and wife shown are a great couple and will be the recipients of the home.  They are putting in some sweat equity and painting the modular home and are extremely greatful and thankful for what is being done for them.

Mike is coordinating any volunteers who want to help with this Mission project.

Getting 3301 Dennis ready for Grandmother and Grand Children.
Attn. brought by Mike Malkemes of Generation One.

Email received 12/18/07 from Mike Malkemes of Generation One (Christian Ministry to the 3rd Ward)
================================================================
Hello,

1) Two weeks ago I found the most shocking display of poverty I have ever seen in the 3rd Ward.  We found a grandmother who had a stroke who's in a wheelchair having to raise 6 grandkids.  They live in an apartment with no refrigerator, oven, microwave, bed, or any furniture whatsoever.  I found a 7 month old and 1 year old baby sleeping face down on the filthiest carpet I have ever seen.  It is all the grandmother can do to keep them alive.  One of the older boys who is 4 or 5 has not learned how to speak yet.  Since we came across them we have been helping with food and furniture.  We brought them a fridge only to find out the entire small apartment building has no power and will not for over a month.

So we have a grandmother and 6 kids who are between 5 years old and 7 months living with no heat and no way to keep or prepare food.

Solution!  We found a home for rent across the street from Generation One's building.  The home is not ready to be rented yet.  It needs the inside painted, some floor work and other touch up jobs.  Our goal is to move the family into this house ASAP.  This house will have heat, fridge, oven, etc.

The house will be available to work on around Wednesday.  I think a handful of people working each day can knock this house out for the family by Christmas.
Generation One and 1000 Hills ministry will then make sure the family is taken care of.

Any volunteers you can send will go a long way to help this family.

12/22/07 Notes from Mitchell:  3301 Dennis is being fixed for family to move in on Saturday Dec. 22, 2007.

Interior and exterior have been repainted, volunteer contractor is installing kitchen cabinets, sink, appliances, and large section of kitchen floor.
Two volunteers from Gloria Dei Lutheran shown replacing rotting boards that support porch and attempted to re-level to some degree and repositioning concrete blocks supporting porch beams.

January, a wheel chair ramp will be built to cover/replace broken steps in front of house.

Generation One building is across the street.

Call going out for furniture, beds, tables, chairs, lamps, etc.

Windows panes were just replaced.  No window coverings.  Windows are not all locking properly.  Rooms are empty and have bare wood floors.  Floor not level in many rooms.  Front and back doors are "there" but are in great dis-repair.

Notes for 12/23/07 from Mitchell.

Move date slipped to Sunday evening 12/23/07.  Ready of not because where the family was had no heat.  At least at 3301 Dennis, there was power for space heaters and the Grandmother has an electric hot plate for cooking.  No gas yet for water heater or cooking.

To Be Done:

Window Coverings
Obtain Dressers
Connect Gas
Connect Stove
Connect water to kitchen (water currently available for toilet flushing.)
Kitchen Floor (large section of plywood replaced but only bare wood surface)
Kitchen wall behind cabinets.  No interior wall, can see back of exterior siding.
(Recommend window foam sealant bead along baseboards and kitchen wall as "daylight" can be seen through floor.)
Wheel chair ramp

Immediate Need:

1.  Dresser drawer sets to hold everyone's clothing.  If you have any usable dressers to donate, please contact Generation One.

2.  Window coverings needed for 12 Windows.
Inside window dimensions are listed.  See the photos for what these windows look like.

Email received from Mike, Dec. 23, 2007 at 7:41 pm

Hello,

A true Christmas Miracle! Around 7 days ago we sent out a call for the body of Christ to come together to help a family that was in dire straits. The call was answered as God moved and the body responded.

Where there was no hope, there is hope, no love, love, desperation, restoration; tears of sorrow have turned to tears of joy.

A family has been rescued. I want to thank Chuck, Landon, Chris, Mitchell, David, and Pastor John for going the extra mile.

Thank all of you who responded to Gods call to help this family move into a home with lights, heat, refrigerator, oven, bathroom, a kitchen table and beds for the children, all of which they did not have.

Please see the attached pictures.

God Bless,

It is a very Merry Christmas . . .

Mike
