Bay Area Habitat for Humanity - Houston, Inc.
Governance

Bay Area Habitat for Humanity - Houston, Inc. is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board sets policy, and provides direction and leadership in moving the organization towards its goals.  Board members' roles are far more than advisory; Directors are very active in the organization outside board meetings.  Each Director is charged with leadership of one or more segments of the Habitat organization. Directors are not paid - their service is entirely voluntary.

The Board of Directors is comprised of four officers - a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, and 9 directors. Members of the Board of Directors serve three-year terms, and the terms of members are staggered such that only one third of the board terms expire each year. There are no term limits.

The office is staffed and run by the Affiliate Coordinator, Sheri Hernandez.

Monthly, Third Thursday Meeting:  Board of Directors for Bay Area Habitat for Humanity - Houston, Inc. currently meets at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 18220 Upper Bay Road in Nassau Bay, TX at 7:00 P.M. Call 281-337-3590 for information.

Meetings are open to interested parties, except when personal/private matters of our current or prospective homeowners are discussed.  If you plan to attend, please call the Habitat office at 281-337-3590 and inform us, so we may plan handouts, seating, etc.

My original reason for getting involved was that after a career of paper pushing supervision of other people's work. Habitat was an opportunity to do something useful using my own hands.

The people I would encourage to get involved are those who would like to help but don't think they have enough building skills.

Mitchell Wu (WEB DUDE) eating the last banana at the Feb. 3, 2007 Worksite lunch break.

I'm not on the Board, but shown here eating a banana at the worksite on Feb. 3, 2007, I have the power to put embarassing pictures, sounds, funny captions, plus bad spelling and grammar all over the website.

Now that is the REAL POWER!

My reasons:  It gets me off the streets, lots of camaraderie, great gourmet meals served at lunch time, thousands of eligible attractive single women, doing something positive, can look like a bum and get dirty, I can be myself, pick up some new skills and knowledge about house building, seeing a bigger picture of something from the ground up, meeting new people I wouldn't normally be in contact.  Being Proactive in Service "right now" instead of just thinking about it or planning to do so "someday" (Time is your most valuable asset!)

Challenge:  University Green Residents, NASA, Aerospace Contractors, and other church pew warmers.
