Youth United

In the fall of 2009, Bay Area Habitat for Humanity lauched it's first Youth United campaign.  Working with Habitat for Humanity can make a difference in the lives of all young people. Youth United is a nationwide venture of Habitat for Humanity International, the mission of this project is to engage and empower a diverse group of young people whilst they fundraise and build an entire Habitat for Humanity home. We make deliberate efforts to include youth from different racial, ethnic, religious and social backgrounds. Students over the age of 16 will be scheduled for supervised, memorial days of building in the spring & summer of 2010. Many of these students have worked on our site before. This group of altruistic students will also work toward harnessing the enthusiasm and energy of youth under the age of 16, by mentoring them as they paint baseboards and doors offsite or landscape after the house is finished. These students promise to offer both challenging and rewarding activities for Youth United participants of all ages. Children between the ages of 5-12 will make welcome baskets for the new homeowner, stock the pantry for the new homeowner, speak to classmates about the mission of Habitat, construct and paint flower boxes as fundraising items and write Thank You letters to Youth United supporters.
