We are the only non-profit home builder in the Galveston, Southeast Harris and Northern Brazoria County area partnering with families to build quality, safe, affordable and energy efficient homes with zero percent interest mortgages.

We pride ourselves as being a front runner in the solution to the massive problem of an inadequate stock of affordable housing in our area. Our program focuses on helping the families we serve become self-sufficient and constructive members of the community contributing to the City, County and School Taxes.

We cannot do it alone.

Bay Area Habitat for Humanity has made the commitment to focus on collaborating with local municipalities, other non-profits and social service agencies and local business owners to work towards achieving our goal to not only serve families in need, but to also revitalize the Texas Gulf Coast one community at a time.

REVITALIZATION

Serving our community

Bay Area Habitat for Humanity is committed to long-term partnerships with the local communities we serve. We’re currently building in Galveston Island, La Porte, and Texas City, and to date we’ve also completed homes and rehab projects in Alvin, Dickinson, Texas City and La Porte.

Our overall service area includes Galveston County and some of Brazoria and Southeast Harris counties. We are bordered by Alvin to the West, La Porte to the East, and from Beltway 8 all the way down to Texas City and Galveston.

Repairing homes and revitalizing neighborhoods
A Brush with Kindness” is Habitat’s home repair and renovation program. It enables eligible individuals and families to continue to live in their homes safely and comfortably for years to come. Projects include painting, roof repair, landscaping, general clean up, weatherization, replacing damaged or broken windows, wheelchair ramp installation and minor home repair services.

The Bay Area Habitat for Humanity Women Build Project encourages women from our community to become advocates for Habitat by engaging them in the entire home building process, from fundraising to building the structure, and becoming a blessing to a family in need! Each spring, the Bay Area Habitat for Humanity Women Build Project actively engages a diverse group of more than 600 community members through its 5K Walk and Build.

Women are a powerful social and economic force with the means to both fund and construct homes where children can grow. Women Build projects provide an opportunity for women to learn new skills, participate in team-building activities and make a lasting difference for children and families in the fight against poverty housing.

Currently, 12 million U.S. children (1 in 6) live in poverty, which is a severe threat to their health, growth and potential.

Bay Area Habitat for Humanity was founded by the love and united mission of Bay Area churches to serve God’s families suffering from poor housing, living in deprived communities. The need is great! Every year churches like yours answer the call to join in the “Building on Faith” project. Church congregations provide the funding, volunteer labor, and prayers needed to construct a home for a family in need.

One of the most appealing aspects of working with Habitat for Humanity is that building a house provides an opportunity to live out your faith and see the tangible fruit of that labor.

Strong feelings of community develop as people work together to plan and build a Habitat house. New friendships are created within the congregation and within the community. When the house is finished, volunteers and homeowners feel a great sense of pride and a connection with one another.

Many congregations experience great spiritual renewal when they build a house. Lives are changed. Often new families join the church and the congregation as a whole sees new purpose. Making the commitment to help sponsor a Habitat for Humanity house means praying about the project, raising the money and recruiting the volunteers for construction. It is a big step of faith. However, those who take that step realize incredible blessings when the church obeys the call of Christ to help our neighbors in need.

Apostles Build

The Bay Area Habitat Apostles Build is an initiative to partner with twelve churches stretching from the Bay Area into the La Porte community to build a Habitat home for a family in need. The vision is twelve churches serving and reaching out to their community mirroring the ministry of the twelve apostles of Christ.

If you would like to schedule a presentation in your church for Bay Area Habitat, or participate in the Apostles Build, please contact us.

…But most of all our lives will change just because we continue to praise God for all of His blessings, and with that comes a sense of peace that we will not have to worry about moving from place to place anymore. What we will receive will be ours, and there is a big sense of pride in wanting to take care of our new home.”

Bay Area Habitat for Humanity

Bay Area Houston Habitat for Humanity (BAHFH) is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope.

BAHFH is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

All are Welcome

BAHFH has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.

As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Global Engagement

The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to serve the world until every man, woman and child has a decent place to live. In order to do this, many Habitat affiliates participate in the Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) Tithe Program to support international builds in countries with extreme needs. Bay Area Habitat for Humanity tithes 10% of its undesignated funds to HFHI every year to support builds like these, in an effort to truly help all of God’s people in need.

Bay Area Habitat for Humanity has funded building projects in Costa Rica and Kenya through our annual tithe to HFHI. This affiliate has supported over 130 builds internationally through this program.

Habitat for Humanity International

Founded in Americus, Georgia, USA, in 1976, Habitat for Humanity today operates around the globe and has helped build, renovate and repair more than 600,000 decent, affordable houses sheltering more than 3 million people worldwide.
