My name is Dalia Alegria-Garner, I was born in Mexico and raised in Galveston County. I am the mother of three adult children and have one grandson. I am also the mother of an adopted baby boy, who I have had since he was just 2 and a half months old. After my divorce, my kids and I kept moving around, and I eventually had to start all over as a single mom of a toddler. It has always been a dream of mine to have a safe place for my children to play and a yard to run around in.
One day, I ran into an old friend. She had shared with me that she had gotten a house of her own, and I was so happy for her. She then told me about Habitat for Humanity. I looked them up and spontaneously entered my email in for future updates on housing applications. Some time went by until one day I received an email saying that applications for housing were open! I couldn’t wait to go print my application and submit it. A little later, I was informed that I was approved! I am so beyond blessed for this opportunity to give my family a home to grow in. Thank you to Habitat for Humanity for everything that y’all do and for turning dreams into reality.
