The Garza Family

My name is Yvonne Garza. I am a hardworking, dedicated single mother of 7 beautiful children. I have had my share of struggles in life just like most single moms. I once resided in La Porte with my family but lost my home during Hurricane Ike. After the hurricane, I had no choice but to move in with family. While there, I struggled for several months to secure gainful employment. Eventually, my prayers were answered, and I secured fulltime employment.

A few months into my employment I saved enough funds to be able to rent a two-bedroom apartment for my family. Even though it was a step up and I was gracious to have my own apartment, a two-bedroom apartment was not an ideal living space for myself and seven children. No matter what, I didn’t give up and knew one day we will have enough space for all of us to live comfortably. Then, Hurricane Harvey happened and once again we were in a situation where the apartment was damaged. I knew my story didn’t end there and with faith I continued to press on driven to achieve more for my family with a dream of giving them a home. I decided to obtain a second job to make ends meet.

I continued to pursue my dream of owning a home for my children and applied for a home through Bay Area Habitat for Humanity by the grace of God I was approved. Words cannot describe the gratitude I have towards Habitat and the wonderful people associated with it. I want my children to learn that with God, hard work, and persistence and motivation all dreams can become a reality. Thank you for all you do Bay Area Habitat for Humanity.
