The City of Galveston is, economically speaking, one of the most hard pressed municipalities in the Bay Area. 23% of the population lives in poverty as compared to 15% for the region. Substandard housing was a major issue prior to the devastation of Hurricane Ike in 2008 but continues to be an especially critical one at this time. Part of Bay Area Habitat for Humanity’s strategic plan is to expand the ministry of Habitat onto Galveston Island, clearly a place where the need for safe, affordable housing is so great. You are invited to an inaugural “Come & See” orientation at Galveston Urban Ministries (GUM). It will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 10:00AM at the GUM office, 905 43rd St. Together we will explore how we can better serve Galveston Island residents. Please RSVP to rzalesak@bahfh.org at your first opportunity.
