Hi, my name is Rocio Rodriguez. I am a single mother of 4 beautiful daughters, Allexus, Evelynn, Jazlynn and Alyssa. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and have been residing in Pasadena, TX for the past 11 years. I want to start off by thanking God! I would not be on this journey if it wasn’t for him. He’s the one making all this happen! It’s all Him, so all glory to our Father!
Secondly, I want to say thank you to everyone that has their hands and heart involved in helping myself and my daughters to be able to get in a new home. It is very much appreciated! My family is the reason I have not given up, and I have done my best in giving them the life that I never had – from mindset, spirituality, self-worth and how not to give up when life throws hard seasons their way.
I grew up in a very poor environment. My family came from Mexico, so they were always focused on trying to give us the best life they could with the little knowledge they had. Growing up in that environment was hard because it was survival mode all the time. It was hard for me – this little girl that didn’t understand why things were the way they were. I missed out on a lot of things that kids would do in school, experiences, etc. because financially my mother couldn’t afford it.
I left at a young age from my home because, in our culture, we marry young, and that was my mindset. Even though my relationship with my girls’ father did not work out, I knew I had to stand up and be a better role model for my daughters. There have been times life has been hard, especially with hardly any support, but I am breaking those generational curses, starting with my own little family.
As a young mother, I had to get my act together, even when dealing with my own internal struggles. I had to make a lot of sacrifices to provide, but I pushed forward. No matter what, the GOAL has always been to get US a home! No matter what life has served me, I always looked for a way out and a positive outcome!
A coworker mentioned Habitat to me, and it immediately got my attention. God then spoke to me and told to me apply. God does speak to us if we just pay attention! I will be so honest with you all; the minute my coworker told me about the program, I knew God’s hands were all over the whole process. When I finally got the email that I had been chosen to be a new homeowner, I was beyond grateful! Words ca not even explain the feeling I had, and I still can’t explain it, but just know that I am beyond thankful!
My daughters are and have been the reason I continue to strive and push through all the obstacles that have come my way. It hasn’t been easy with a lot of tears and a lot of dark places, but GOD has and continues to have his hands all over my life. He has been the main resource of getting me through things, and he has been my light through it all! I mean that with the most humbled heart!
I want my daughters to reach their goals, what
ever it is they want to do with their lives, and to know that their mom never gave up and is still not giving up!
Habitat, this home means everything to my family. It means praying together, bonding, unity, growth, love and especially change! I could not be more than grateful for all the sponsors, partners and everyone that will make this home my first new home!
Once again, I want to thank all of you that are involved in making OUR NEW HOME! Habitat, you are making an impact on people’s lives! Continue doing the well of God and helping other families!
