Donovan

Hello, my name is Donovan. I was born on Galveston Island, and I’m a single, hardworking young man. I currently work as a correctional officer in Galveston. I’ve been employed as an officer for 4 years and counting. Before my career in corrections, I was in the medical field. I’ve worked in a retirement home for 5 years, helping the elderly with day-to-day activities. I have also worked with inmates on the medical side for another 5 years, taking vitals, helping rehabilitate, etc.

At this point it was 2021, I was now 29 and looking for a major change, so that’s when I became a correctional officer for the State of Texas. I noticed that at this time my classmates and peers were buying homes, and this sparked an old dream of mine that seemed impossible to reach.

A good friend of mine told me about the “Habitat for Humanity Program” and said that I should apply. I put in my application with high hopes, and OMG I was called! I was picked, and everything seemed so surreal. I’m now blessed with a forever home that I was able to help build and paint. I was even able to pick out the color scheme! Oh yeah, and about that old dream… it’s true when they say, “Dreams really do come true!” I’m living proof! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!!
